Today, we're starting our journey at home - aiming to reveal the best dining spot in H.
We will start right in the middle of our beautiful campus: Basta al Sugo - nestled in the heart of our towering Hill. It's the newest restaurant in H-Farm and the only one that offers a one-of-a-kind meal concept: fresh pasta every day with four different options. We visited the restaurant for lunch since they are only open from 12.00 to 2.00 pm.
Entering the restaurant you are immediately welcomed by all the abundant greenery inside the hill, and the smell of fresh homemade sauces - it's almost overwhelming. Arriving at the bar, we decided to give the best possible review to you, our fellow foodies!! With that in mind, we ordered all four different types of pasta available. From a simple pasta al pomodoro to a more complex one, with fresh broccoli and slightly salted anchovies. We had mixed feelings, but in the end, we decided on the one which convinced us the most… you'll need to wait for a bit more to know that. The other two options, radicchio e salsiccia, and zucca e gorgonzola, also deserve a mention. The radicchio e salsiccia pasta was a hearty delight, offering the radicchio's beautiful bitterness balanced by the salty punch of the sausage. Meanwhile, the zucca e gorgonzola combination stood out for its smooth, creamy texture, with the sweetness of the pumpkin perfectly melding with the rich, sweet gorgonzola. Both dishes demonstrated a mastery of flavor pairing that made each bite a pleasant experience.
To give a 360° review of the restaurant, we should start with the service. Basta al Sugo, it's a funny and informal place, where eating is not the first thought, but people are. There is no actual table service, but the staff are there to ensure a smooth and friendly experience. The environment encourages connections, making it more than just a place to eat but rather a hub for community and networking.
Now, let's return to the star of the show: the pasta. Out of the four options we tasted, the one that truly tickled our taste buds was the pasta with broccoli and anchovies. The balance of flavors was exquisite — the broccoli's almost sweet flavors complemented perfectly by the anchovies' salty kick. It's a dish that doesn't try too hard to impress but wins you over with its complex simplicity.
For all students at H-Farm, our top recommendation is to try Basta al Sugo at least once — particularly for their classic pasta al pomodoro since it's the only pasta they serve every day. It's a comfort dish done right, with a rich, and sweet tomato sauce (that's how it should be done!) that pairs beautifully with the freshly made pasta. It's budget-friendly, filling, and an ideal lunch option during a busy campus day.
In conclusion, Basta al Sugo has successfully created a dining experience that is equal parts delightful and accessible. Whether you're in the mood for something adventurous like pasta with broccoli and anchovies or craving the simplicity of a tomato-based classic, this spot is sure to satisfy. Let's give it up for this gem in the Hill – a must-visit for pasta lovers in H-Farm!
