School Uniforms
School uniform flexibility - students
Hello my name is Sandy! I made this article to give insight on the very current issue of students not respecting the school uniform, not only what happened but digging deeper into the meaning of uniform and its effects on others and what problems it can cause (if there are any)
Let's dig deeper into the overall purpose of uniforms.
Lets dive in the basic definition of the word (at least what I found and will be referring to)
We all know that uniforms are distinctive clothes worn by different groups ( like companies) and students attending certain schools.
It is said that uniforms give people a sense of identity and belonging, some parts of the backstory of uniforms are surprisingly connected to psychology, the uniforms in our school have improved safety, and cause less distractions for students.
From the 2023-24 dress code, the school is trying to promote "inclusivity and diversity" with these uniforms
Surprisingly many professors are flexible about these rules, letting students off the hook even if they do not respect the uniform.
Let's face it if teachers were more strict about the school uniform half of the school would be suspended.
Here are some of the requirements, just the few rules that I think are more important for students to know.
Basic uniform requirements
Wearing an H-Farm top, hoodie, or sweater is mandatory for all students.
As long as the jeans fit properly and there are no rips or tears, they are acceptable. They shouldn't appear "distressed" and should have a dark hue.
Large writing or symbols should not be placed on clothing.
The school uniform is compulsory and, in its basic form, is composed of:
White polo shirt / t-shirt
Sweatshirt
Pants / skirt pants for students
Jacket
Sports kit (sweatshirt, trousers, t-shirt)
Basic Principle: Certain body parts must be covered by all students at all times
Clothes must be worn in a way such that underwear or the areas where it would be worn are fully covered with opaque fabric.
No cleavage must be visible.
All items listed in the "must wear" and "may wear" categories below must meet this
basic principle.
2. Students Must Wear*
A top (with fabric in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms), AND
Trousers/jeans or equivalent (for example, a skirt, leggings, a dress or bermuda shorts)
Footwear with no heels greater than 3cm in height
Safe footwear shall be worn at all times.
3. Students May Wear
Hats must be removed when indoors in any school building.
Hats must allow the face to be visible to staff.
Religious headwear
Hoodie sweatshirts (wearing the hood overhead is allowed, but the face and ears must be visible at all times, hoods have to be lowered when indoors in any school building)
Fitted trousers or "skinny jeans"
Opaque leggings or yoga pants are allowed if worn with a long shirt/t-shirt or under a skirt
All skirts/shorts must be just above the knee or longer
Tank tops, excluding spaghetti straps, halter or crop tops or anything that exposes shoulders or midriff (between chest and waist)
