Reyer Cup Slam Dunks Success at H-FARM Campus!
On Tuesday H-Farm Hosted the Reyes Cup Basketball Tournament, an exciting sporting event that brought together a number of schools in the area to participate in a fun sporting activity and represent themselves. The event saw a lot of support and liveliness from fans that got to enjoy a series of events that checked all the boxes with heated moments, entertainment, great plays, passion, and a well deserved outcome.
Half time was never dry as H-Farm's Cheerleader squad was happy to put on a performance, with an impressive dance routine. We also saw the Beaver Mascot make a new friend with Galilei's, a symbol of what really drives these events, the ability to meet new people and socialise with members of other schools.
The First Game of the Event was a comfortable victory for the Beavers, leading at half time by 12 even though the away side got off earlier. Throughout the game we saw what would become a continuous trend of our starting Point Guard, Gabriele Gusmara, scoring many shots from the free throw line as he was getting fouled heavily, nevertheless he managed to show a good mid range game even with the disruptive contact. Overall the team showed fluidity and seriousness, letting us know they were there to win.
Having Interviewed one of our star players, we were able to get an insight on the perspective of the Beavers:
Gusmara No. 2, let us know that going into the tournament Head Coach Mr. Micheal Moll decided on a man to man defence, which proved useful in the first game, and a pick and roll offence, something again very common, but for a reason. The player felt that the chemistry between the team was good, and that they were sticking to the game plan of letting the ball flow between players. But knew that the next games were going to be difficult. Of course he planned to stick to what he was doing, drawing fouls and taking driving, but in the next games they were going to try and let the opponents take their shots, and prioritise defending the key due to the height disadvantage.
The second game was close throughout the majority of it but it was in the second half, after a vulgar pep talk from away fans to their team that the away side pulled out a victory with a score difference of 20.
The last game of the tournament was entertaining to say the least. Visitors made themselves heard and it worked, as the Beavers were struggling. The game unfortunately was not close, and in the end it was fatigue that gave away the game. At least we cannot say it was anticlimactic, as the atmosphere was taking a toll on players and fights were not too far away from sprouting.
We interviewed three students from the school Leopardi. Eugenio, who played on the court for his school's basketball team, showed a great passion which reflected his enthusiasm leading up to the tournament. He was happy to share his positive thoughts on the H-Farm Campus, stating that he specifically really appreciated the addition of scooters thinking they were revolutionary. Next, we brought the questions up to the fans, seeing what their two cents on the event was. We interviewed two cheerleaders, Edoardo and Vanessa who were ecstatic to motivate their team. They were left mesmerised by the school, and were particularly impressed by its size. They also felt like the school had everything they needed. Due to this being their first event, they were a bit anxious but loved the opportunity and believed it was a great way to experience actually performing at an event, the two of them were very happy to be more prepared for the future. Edoardo especially took a liking to our courts and pitches being an active person himself, in fact, he affirmed that for him it would be a dream to live at H-Farm.
Overall the event was a fantastic opportunity for the student body to let off some steam, cheer on their friends, and enjoy some time away from desks. We can only be thankful for the experience, and show our gratitude and praise to those who made the event possible, and of course to our passionate team.
