STEM+ Interview - Mr. Vino

Why did you decide to become a stem+ teacher?

I decided to become a STEM+ teacher because I love working on projects that require problem-solving and computational thinking and STEM+ is a project-based class.

Can you explain the main units of this subject?

The class has 2 units presented in 2 projects, led by students' interest.

What are the features you like most about this subject?

Creativity!

What is the bigger project you're developing at the moment?

Interactive robot powered by artificial intelligence.

Do you think that stem+ can be a helpful thing or skill that can be useful in our future? If yes, why do you think it is important?

STEM+ offers an amazing opportunity for students to develop a wide range of much-needed skills such as collaboration, research, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and computational thinking.

Why do you think students should choose this + course?

It is a class led by students who would like to explore their own skills and capabilities in managing and building challenging and exciting projects.

As you can understand from the answers to my questions. STEM + is a class where you will develop your skills in collaboration, research, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and computational thinking. This class is led by students' interests, the whole year is based on two units, 2 big projects divided in the first and second part of the year. The students decide on both projects and every group has the possibility of choosing the project's that they will develop during the year. If you are still not convinced of joining this class next year, I also have a student opinion on this class. Marisa Martignon had no problem about being mentioned in this article and this is her honest opinion about this +subject.

Why did you decide to join this class?

I didn't realize exactly how this class worked to begin with, but I chose it mostly because I adore everything relating to STEM and this elective would help further my understanding of STEM for my future career.

Can you explain the main things you do in this subject?

We come up with a project and then, with the guidance of our teacher, build it.

What are the features you like most about this subject?

I love how free it is - we have a lot of independence and it's very fun!

What is the bigger project you are developing at this moment?

My group and I are building a submarine.

Do you think that STEM+ can be a helpful thing or skill that can be useful in our future? If yes, why do you think it is important?

Although I don't believe the product (the submarine) would be particularly useful, the skills we get from making it are very useful. for example, we learn how to code and how electronics work as well as get a practical understanding of physics.

Why do you think other students, apart from you, should choose this course?

It develops skills relating to independence and leadership, as well as the practical skills required. our teacher doesn't really 'hold our hand', so it lets you learn how to self-regulate.

In the end, if you're a student trying to find a class for next year that lets you be more free in your decision, that lets you decide what project you're going to build for all year, a class that has the use of AI, a class that develops your skills in collaboration, research, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking and computational thinking and a class that combines Physics, Math, Robotics and Computer science all in ones. If all this is what you're looking for Stem+ is the right class for you.
